How Many Days Does It Take to Get a Police Clearance?

Calendar marking the days from a police clearance booking to its release

How many days to get police clearance depends on one thing more than any other: whether the records check finds a HIT. With no HIT, the station releases your clearance on the same day you appear; with a HIT, a manual check comes first, and that can take from minutes to several working days. Before that, the online part takes under an hour, but the first open slot may be days away.

Timing checked on 29 October 2026, on pnpclearance.ph and in the PNP’s how-to-apply guide.

Where the time goesWhat to expect
Sign-up, profile and bookingLess than an hour of your own time
Waiting for an open slotFrom the next day to a week or more, by station
Payment reaching LandBankQuick by card, slower through some stores
Your station visitCapture takes minutes; the line takes longer
Clean records checkClearance handed over before you leave
Records check with a HITRelease on the date the station gives you

A word on us: Police Clearance Guide is independent, and the PNP doesn’t run it. So the station handling your application always has the final say on its release times.

What decides how long it takes to get police clearance

Four things set your timeline, and you control three of them:

  • The slot you can get. Busy stations fill up, so a nearby town may get you in sooner.
  • How you pay. A card payment clears fast, while a store payment can lag.
  • Your paperwork. The right ID and your reference number avoid a wasted trip.
  • The records check. This is the one part you can’t control, because a namesake can trigger a HIT.

How long does it take to get police clearance, step by step?

If you work backward from a deadline, this is how the days usually fall.

How many days to get police clearance: from online booking to station visit and release

Step 1: Book on day one

Open the official portal, create and activate your account, then fill in your profile and choose a slot. Since this takes well under an hour, do it the same day you learn you need a clearance. Also, look at a few stations, because the earliest date often decides everything else.

Step 2: Pay the same evening

Pay right after you book. Card payments usually reach LandBank fast. Store payments, however, can take longer to show up, and an unpaid booking risks cancellation two banking days before your slot.

Step 3: Appear on your date

Arrive a little before your session starts. Then the desk checks your papers and captures your photo, signature and fingerprints. That part takes minutes, although the line can stretch it to an hour or more.

Step 4: Wait while the record is checked

Next, the system compares your details with PNP records. When nothing matches, the wait is short, and you get your police clearance same day release.

Step 5: Leave with it, or come back

If the check is clean, read the printed clearance and go. If it shows a HIT, a verification officer looks at the match first. Some HITs clear within hours; others need a few working days, and you’ll get a return date at the desk.

Can I get police clearance same day?

Yes, most applicants do. As long as you booked, paid in time and the check comes back clean, you’ll usually leave with it on the day of your appointment. So, is police clearance one day process? At the station, yes. Counting the wait for a slot, though, plan on a few days to a week.

How to check police clearance status

The Transactions page in your account is the place to look. It lists each booking with its reference number and current state. An unpaid booking stays marked Pending, and the label changes once the money arrives. For a renewal without appearance, check the same account for approval and the download button.

By contrast, there’s no online police clearance tracking for a HIT. The station gives you the return date in person, so write it down before you leave.

Planning around a job deadline

Start from the date HR wants the paper and count back. First, leave two banking days for a store payment to post, or pay by card and skip that worry. Next, add the wait for an open slot at the stations you can reach. Then, if your name is a common one, add a few working days for a possible HIT. In practice, a week’s head start covers most cases. Finally, tell HR early if your date looks tight, since most employers prefer a warning to a surprise.

Timelines for other routes

Not every application follows the standard path:

  • Renewal with appearance: the same as a first application, minus the sign-up.
  • Renewal without appearance: no station visit, but the portal publishes no police clearance processing time, so allow at least a week.
  • Clearance Certification from abroad: reviewed by the PNP’s One Stop Shop, so start well before any deadline.

What slows people down

Most one-day processes turn into a week for the same reasons:

  • A late store payment that loses the slot
  • An expired ID or a photocopy that sends you home
  • Arriving after your session starts, since the booking covers one session only
  • A HIT, often just a namesake, but still a manual check
  • A blurry upload on a renewal without appearance

Quick answers

Does a faster payment speed up the release?

It protects your slot, not the check. In other words, a quick payment keeps your date safe, but the release still depends on the records check.
